Groups.io Tutorial/Help
If you are receiving this email, welcome to the new platform for email communication amongst the Kentucky ham radio community. With Groups.io we have migrated the former KYHAM.net email host server to a more flexible platform. If you aren't familiar with messaging forums, don't worry. Groups.io functions as a forum type platform that integrates your own email address. The reason for going to Groups.io is due to the new web server that puts a cap on the email distribution unless we pay extra. To boot, Groups.io a free platform for us to use! With that being said, we are still working out a few bugs in the system so be patient but feel free to pass along any issues to Roman Rusinek - KE6YCW ( admin@... ). On to the tutorial... This is a quick and easy how-to on Groups.io. If at any point you have questions, click the icon on the top right corner of the screen. Any question about Groups.io can be answered in the Help File. USER NAME To help with uniformity and understanding who is who, please try to set up your USER NAME in the following format: *FIRSTNAME LASTNAME - CALLSIGN (E.G. - Roman Rusenik - KE6YCW)* -------------------- MESSAGES / NEW TOPIC -------------------- Think of creating a New Topic as if you are sending out a mass email. Each time a New Topic is created or someone reply's to your topic an email will be sent in masse. There is no moderating that will approve/disapprove a message, which means if you create a topic, you will email everyone. You can subscribe to the way you receive notifications to New Messages in several ways in the section located on the left. If you are like me, I have mine set to INDIVIDUAL MESSAGES , which means I will receive an email each time someone creates a New Topic or replies to someones discussion. If you are familiar with discussion forums such as Radio Reference or eHam, it's very much the same, only this Group is for Kentucky Ham Operators. Please try to use *TAGS* when applicable. If you are set to receive INDIVIDUAL MESSAGES , you can cater which topics you want to receive emails to. To MUTE a certain topic you need to do the following: UPON RECEIVING AN EMAIL NOTIFICATION, SELECT " MUTE THIS TOPIC " FROM YOUR EMAIL. --------------------- REPLYING TO A MESSAGE --------------------- When replying to a message you can do one of two things: A) reply to the group or B) reply to the sender. Option A sends out a mass email. Option B replies only to one specific person. You can reply to messages using your personal email server or you can reply using Groups.io. When using Groups.io to reply select the *PRIVATE* button on the bottom right of the text box to reply to just the sender. Click *REPLY TO GROUP * to send your message to everyone. There are many more features on Groups.io available. This is just a "Meat & Potatoes" walk-through on how to use Groups.io. Just think of Groups.io a mass email system and remember that unless you reply to a specific person, everyone will get an email for each message posted in Groups.io. If you have any questions at all about Groups.io, reply to this thread and we will try to help you out. - Jack Hedges (KY4TPR)
